Butterfly-shaped gland that helps regulate heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and metabolism (food converted to energy).
Thyroid + Stress
Any imbalance in the endocrine system including hypothalamus, pituitary, pineal or adrenal glands can cause hormone imbalances which then also cause stress to the thyroid as well. Sometimes the thyroid itself is weakened and other times it simply becomes over burdened by taking on the roles of the other glands.
Either way, the body and mind are not meant to handle chronic stress. If you find yourself in a state of chronic stress - the solution may not be to remove stress from your life (this is not always possible) but one solution can be learning how to better support yourself.
